Barrett
joined Arsenal as a trainee on the 14th October 1998 and
was a
regular member of last season's Arsenal Reserve team and
U-19 squad, He made his first team debut in December '99,
coming on as a substitute in the Premiership game away
to Leicester City, which Arsenal won 3-0, and made his
home debut in the 4-1 victory over Sunderland.
Last
season Barrett won his first U-21 Republic of Ireland
caps and looks to be a young forward with a future. He
made his U-21 debut in February 1999 against the Czech
Republic and made further appearances against Greece and
appeared for his country in a summer tournament in Toulon.
Barrett had already been a member of the 1998 U-16 Republic
of Ireland squad that won the European Championships.
