Grimandi
joined up with his former Monaco coach Arsene Wenger when
he arrived a Highbury in June 1997 as part of the deal
that brought Emmanuel Petit to Arsenal. He was used as
a centre-back in France but was more impressive as a right
back for Arsenal, on the occassions that he deputised
for Lee Dixon. He was a member of the double winning side
of '97-'98 and won medals for both competitions, despite
not appearing in the FA Cup Final, adding to the French
Championship medal he had gained with Monaco.
He
originally fitted in at Arsenal as a squad player, filling
in at midifeld or as a wing-back and has gradually increased
his goal tally as he has become a more permanent fixture
in the starting eleven, though his discipline has appeared
to deteriorate along the way and his temperament is one
side of his game that he will need to curb.
