Arsenal
centre-back Martin Keown is a full England International
and a long standing member of the famous Arsenal back
four, where he forms a world class partnership with his
club captain Tony Adams. He
has international honors at B-Team level, Under-21 and
Youth level.
Keown
started his career at Arsenal, progressing through the
club's youth system to make the first team, but he quickly
moved on to Aston Villa in order to secure a regular first
team place. He returned to Arsenal, from Everton, in February
1992 for £2m, becoming the first player since the
war to re-sign for Arsenal. He soon became an automatic
first choice, ahead of Steve Bould, and was a member of
the Arsenal double winning side of 1997-98. He was a member
of the England squad for the 1998 World Cup in France,
but he failed to make an appearance.
His
1999-2000 season was interupted by injury, first he suffered
a calf injury, then a broken bone in his hand but he did
return to the England first team, making ten international
appearances, playing in all three of England's games at
Euro 2000.
The
highlight of the current campaign must be his two late
goals against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League
home game, turning a 2-1 defecit into a 3-2 victory in
the dying minutes of the match.
