Fredrik
Ljungberg, a full Swedish international midfielder, came
to the attention of England supporters with a great display
for Sweden against England in the Euro 2000 Qualfiers
and it wasn't long before he completed a move from Halmstad,
where he won one Swedish league title, to Arsenal.
Ljungberg
was an immediate success at Highbury, scoring within five
minutes of coming on to the field on his debut against
Manchester United in September '98, but suffered an ankle
injury and some abdominal problems later that season.
He
continued his goal-spree against Manchester United in
the 1999-2000 season, scoring against them in both of
their Premiership clashes. Ljungberg became a regular
in the Swedish national side last season and appeared
in all three of their games at the Euro 2000 finals.
This
season he has shaken off his "Sid Vicious' tag, replacing
his spiky haircut with a 'Number One' shaven head. His
finest hour came with this season's two goals in the Champions
League home game against Lazio. Although he often plays
in central midfield he appears to do better when he plays
further out on the left side.
