Alex
Manninger arrived
at Highbury arrived
at Highbury as
David Seaman's understudy
in June 1997
from the Austrian side Sturm Graz . Despite deputising
ably for the injured England No 1 during the double winning
year Manninger is finding it hard to displace him as the
regular goalkeeper, and will probably have to wait until
Seaman moves on, or retires, before securing that spot.
He
suffered a serious wrist injury just before the start
of last season but recovered well and played in Arsenal's
first twelve games of the 1999-2000 campaign.
Manninger
is a qualified mechanic and has won four international
caps for Austria to add to his Under-21 honors but he
has been told that he will have to secure a regular first
team space at club level before regularly securing the
national goalkeepers jersey.
