At the end of the 1998-99 season Parlour was voted the Supporters Club Player of the Year, confirming his continued improvement and made his England debut in the same season, in the game against Poland.

He suffered an ankle injury-mid way through last season but returned in good form to score the first hat-trick of his career in the UEFA Cup game against Werder Bremen but he failed to make the England squad for Euro 2000.
