An
England international midfielder, Parlour declined the
chance to move to Sunderland in summer 2000, as the sale
of Marc Overmars and Emmanuele Petit to Barcelona left
more opportunities for him at Highbury.
Parlour
plays on the right side of midfield at Arsenal, where
he combines well with the attacking full back Lee Dixon.
he was an almost ever present member of the Arsenal double
winning side of 1997-98 and was a member of the original
England World Cup squad before it was reduced to 22.
At
the end of the 1998-99 season Parlour was voted the Supporters
Club Player of the Year, confirming his continued improvement
and made his England debut in the same season, in the
game against Poland.
He
suffered an ankle injury-mid way through last season but
returned in good form to score the first hat-trick of
his career in the UEFA Cup game against Werder Bremen
but he failed to make the England squad for Euro 2000.
