A world
class winger of the highest order, Robert Pires had a
nightmare season with Olympic Marseilles last year. He
sustained periods of poor form and became the butt of
the fans criticism, eventually being stripped of the captaincy.
Things
got a little better for Pires at Euro 2000, when he made
the decisive cross for David Trezeguet's 'golden-goal'
in the final against Italy and he picked up a winners
medal to add to his World Cup winners medal from France
1998.
The
summer of 2000 saw him move to Arsenal where he has so
far been used on the left flank, in the space vacated
by Marc Overmars, though he is capeable of playing in
the space just behind twin strikers.
