David
Seaman, the Arsenal and England goalkeeper, started his
career at Leeds United but had to wait until his move
to Arsenal in 1990 for his career to really take off.
He has now amassed over 800 appearances at the highest
level, despite the relatively late kick-start to his career.
Seaman
broke a finger during the double winning year of 1997-98
and had to fight to regain his place from Alex Manninger,
his young Austrian understudy. He appeared for England
in all four of their World Cup games at France '98 during
that summer.
The
following season he suffered regularly from back and rib
injuries, though they didn't force him to miss too many
games and the following year made two appearances for
England at Euro 2000 before injury forced him to miss
England's third and final game.
Despite
increasing criticism has managed to keep his place as
the automatic first choice keeper at the start of the
2000-2001 season and has revealed that he may still continue
to play for some time to come, after earlier indicating
that this may be his final season.
