Igor Stepanovs, the Latvian international defender, joined Arsenal in the Summer of 2000 from Skonto Riga. He made his Arsenal debut in the Worthington Cup defeat by Ipswich Town, where he scored a headed goal. Stepanovs is not a stranger to scoring goals, he scored four last season in the Latvian league, all of them within the space of two weeks and managed an international goal in the Euro 2000 Qualifier against Georgia.
