Despite
his Italian name, Vernazza is English and is a product
of Arsenal's youth squad. He gained some Champions League
experience as early as the 1998-99 season when he appeared
in the game against Panathinaikos.
He
then spent some time at Ipswich Town 'on-loan' in order
to gain some valuable first team experience.
A
promising midfielder, Vernazza made two Premiership appearances
last season but so far this year has been limited to appearances
as a substitute and one appearance in the Worthington
Cup, where Arsenal were knocked out by Ipswich Town. He
appears to be on the verge of a breakthrough into the
first team.
