Belgium 2-1 Sweden (Belgium Player Reports)

De Wilde - Made a good early save from Kennet Andersson. Made a terrible mistake for the Swedish goal when failing to control a long back-pass but somewhat made amends with two fine saves later on in the game, in particular one from Ljungberg. Generally coped well with corners and crosses into the box

Deflandre - Equipped himself well, put in some good tackles and got some balls into the box

Staelens - Put in some good defensive work, clearing behind for corners on two occassions in the first half, proved competent throughout

Valgaeren - Solid at the back, but didn't really get too involved

Leonard - Solid at the back, replaced by van Kerkhoven in the 72nd minute. Put one good ball into the box which Mpenza just failed to control

van Kerkhoven - Came on as a late substitute for Leonard in the 72nd minute but still managed to pick up a Yellow Card

Verhayen - Coped well with Petterson and generally played well, covered a lot of ground and got forward down the right, getting behind the defence on occassions, but picked up an injury late in the game and was replaced by Peeters in the 87th minute. Picked up a Yellow Card

Peeters - Came on as a late substitute for the injured Verhayen in the 87th minute and didn't have time to get into the game

Vanderhaeghe - Played well throughout

Goor - Scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute, taking the ball well

Wilmots - Played well throughout, made some good passes. Put one shot wide of the goal late in the game

Strupar - Played very well throughout and caused some problems, had one real chance with a fair shot, though he didn't quite connect properly with the ball, had earlier made some good space with a quick turn and a snap-shot from the edge of the box. Repaced by Luc Nilis in the 68th minute

Nilis - Showed a lot of enthusiasm after replacing Strupar in the 68th minute but was a bit too ball-greedy, prefering to shoot instead of passing on more than one occassion. Went close on several occassions but didn't really find his shooting range. Picked up a Yellow Card for a foul on Ljungberg

E.Mpenza - Scored the decisive winning goal after appearing to control the ball with his arm, though he did put it away well. Caused several problems throughout for the Swedish defence due to his pace, though was caught offside on numerous occassions
