Peruzzi, one of the world's finest goalkeepers for some
time now, began his career with Roma, but had made only
a handful appearances for them when
he failed a 'dope' test and received a one year ban from
the game. Juventus signed him in 1991, whilst the ban
was still in force, and it was with the Turin giants that
he gained international recognition.
He
won the Champions Lague with Juve in 1996 and secured
the position of the Azzuri's first choice goalkeeper for
Euro 96, he lost his place to Buffon for the World Cup
and declined the chance to go to Euro 2000 when he was
named as only the third choice keeper.
Peruzzi
was with Juventus for eight seasons, eventually moving
on when following coach Marcello Lippi to Inter MIlan,
where he stayed for just one season before his £10m
transfer to Lazio, making his the world's most expensive
goalkeeper.
The
move back to the capital was a surprising one as Lazio
already have Luca Marchegiani who was expected to move
on, but had decided to stay and fight for his place as
Peruzzi has quickly established himself as the number
one choice at the Stadio Olimpico.
Capped
12 times at Under-21 level, Peruzzi has 26 Full international
caps to his name.
