EURO 2000 -
Kicks Off Today
Belgium got
off to a flying start in their EURO 2000 campaign by beating
Sweden 2-1 tonight in Brussels. Belgium stunned the Swedes
with a goal
from Bart Goor just before half-time and followed up with
a second from Emile Mpenza after 32 seconds of the second-half.
A disastrous goalkeeping error from Filip de Wilde allowed
Sweden to get a goal-back as he failed to control a long
back-pass, allowing Johan Mjallaby to put the ball into
an empty net but Sweden couldn't really get back into
the game, despite the introduction of Henrik Larsson shorly
after Belgium's second goal. Then in the 80th minute Swden's
Patrick Andersson received his marching orders after picking
up a second Yellow Card
